High purity formamide can be used for synthesis of medicines. Although industrial grade formamide is listed as hazardous chemicals, high purity formamide is still popular in many industries. It is a kind of good solvents and has wide application.

Formamide molecular formula HCONH2, molecular weight 45.041. It is colorless transparent liquid, with slightly ammonia smell. The melting point of 2.55 DEG C, the boiling point of 210-212 DEG C (180 DEG C to partial decomposition), the flash point 154 DEG C, the proportion of 1.1334 (20 C). It is hygroscopic and can be miscible with water and ethanol, slightly soluble in benzene, chloroform and ether.

Formamide can also be obtained by the synthesis reaction of carbon monoxide and ammonium under the action of sodium methoxide under high pressure (10 ~ 30MPa).

The use of formamide is the synthesis of medicine, spices, dyes and other raw materials, but also can be used as the solvent for the synthesis of fiber spinning, plastic processing, wood production of casein ink. Also used as a treatment agent for paper, coagulant petroleum drilling and construction industry, foundry industry, carburizing and nitriding agent softener of animal glue and organic synthesis of polar solvent. Electrokinetic injection was used in DNA degeneration and capillary electrophoresis system.
