Methylis salicylas is one of the most important alcohol compounds, of which the original production method is to acetify. The method takes salicylic acid and methanol as raw material, and takes sulfuric acid as catalyst to carry on the reaction, through the process of removing vinegar, alkali washing, water washing and rectification.
Methyl salicylate is colorless or light yellow liquid, with special aroma, sweet and spicy. Slightly soluble in water, with the volatile oil and fatty oil. Any mixed local stimulation, can promote local blood circulation, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.
To synthesize methyl salicylate, sulfuric acid as catalyst has high catalytic activity and yield, but its disadvantages are as follows:
1) Acidity and oxidation of concentrated sulfuric acid is very strong. In the process it will carbonize organic matter, accompanied by oxidation, alcohol dehydration and etherification, which caused a lot of adverse reactions.
2) Sulfuric acid has corrosion to equipment.
3) Sulfuric acid is much more difficult to process in industrial production.
4) Sulfuric acid and its waste has heavy pollution to environment.
5) Sulfuric acid catalyst can not be reused.
To this end, people have been looking for an ideal catalyst to synthesize Methylis salicylas.
According to reports, some people use sodium isovalerate as catalyst to synthesize Isoamyl silicate; Use sodium bisulfate to synthesize aspirin; Use Tungsten silicate and heteropoly acid to make catalytic synthesis of Methylis salicylas. But no data reported to use sodium bisulfate as catalyst to synethsize Methylis salicylas.
We use salicylic acid and methanol to synthesize methyl salicylate. The results show that by using sodium bisulfate as catalyst for synthesis of Methylis salicylas, the effect is better.
