Ertapenem is suitable for the treatment of patients with the following moderate to severe infections caused by sensitive strains of the following bacteria.
(1) Secondary abdominal cavity infection: caused by Escherichia coli, Clostridium spp, Eubacterium lentus, Peptostreptococcus, Bacteroides fragilis, Bacteroides gibbsi, Bacteroides ovatus, Bacteroides polymorpha or monomorphs Caused by Bacteroides.
(2) Complicated skin and appendage infections: those caused by Staphylococcus aureus (only the strains sensitive to methicillin), Streptococcus pyogenes, Escherichia coli, and Peptostreptococcus.
