L-menthol crystals (CAS 2216-51-5) exists in long needle-like crystals. Menthol is slightly soluble in water, easily soluble in ethanol, ethyl ester, acetone and chloroform. Menthol is stored in normal temperature, and melting point is from 38 to 44 centigrade degree.
Menthol's ability to chemically trigger the cold-sensitive TRPM8 receptors in the skin is responsible for the well-known cooling sensation it provokes when inhaled, eaten, or applied to the skin
